Do you love the smell of freshly roasted coffee? Would you like to supply your friends, neighbors and community businesses with some of the world’s finest specialty coffees, absolutely FRESH? Are you in search of a home-based business that creates a product you can be proud of selling and which rewards your entrepreneurship with a significant income for a modest initial investment?

Syd & Jerry’s newly developed table-top roaster is at the heart of an exciting new home-based business. The simplicity and size of this machine enables you to roast green coffee beans to perfection without any previous experience and using only a small amount of counter space in your home, garage, or shop.

Why coffee lovers will want your coffee and come back regularly

Most coffee drinkers have never tasted truly fresh coffee. Like fresh bread just out of the oven, fresh-roasted coffee beans have a unique and wonderful flavor. About a week after roasting, this flavor begins to fade. Fancy packaging doesn’t solve the problem. The freshness of your coffee will set it apart from anything your customer normally buys.

For centuries coffee roasting was done either in home or by coffee roasters who traveled from community to community. With mass produced coffee the connection between coffee growers and coffee drinkers has been lost, along with the quality of fine coffee. You can recreate the link:

  1. By roasting to order and dating your coffee, customers will know the coffee is fresh.

  2. You can educate coffee lovers about what makes each regional bean variety unique. (We will provide you with the knowledge you need). You can roast each variety separately or make up special blends requested by your newly knowledgeable customers.

  3. Customers can control the degree of roast by asking for anything from a light Viennese roast to a dark French.

Marketing your coffee will be simple and fun. In 1 Lb or ½ Lb bags it is easy to handle, the labels will be distinctive and your prices will be very competitive with commercial whole bean coffees. You’ll be able to find regular customers in your neighborhood, among friends, among local businesses including cafes, espresso stands, and small neighborhood stores. Because the machine is portable you can take your set-up to farmer’s markets in the summer or gift shows around Christmas. And with every new exposure you’ll find new customers through word of mouth and repeat customers who want regular coffee.

Simple to set up and operate

First decide where to set up your operation (shop, barn, garage, and home)
Install roaster, vent system and plumb in the gas supply line (natural gas or propane)

Try out the roaster on different varieties of beans: Put one pound of green beans in the glass cylinder. Select the degree of roast (0 through 9). Watch to see how dark beans turn with each number. When it’s finished in about 18 minutes, fill bag and attach label. You will be able to roast at the rate of about 3 lbs per hour.

Develop marketing plan, lists of potential customers, ideas for promotion, delivery etc.
At this point you can consider yourself “in business”.

Since roasting is automatic, once you select the degree of roast you can go about any number of other at-home tasks. You can roast to your own schedule and develop your business to fit your particular needs. As you grow your customer base you can add another machine to double your production.
